Statistics
Individuals take statistics simply as a science of collecting numbers. No doubt, it was it original meaning. State-istics was the collection of population and economic information vital to the state. Moreover, the English word "statistics" is almost a century old. It has either been derived from the latin word "Status" or Italian word "Statistica" or German word "Statis-tika". Meaning each word is an organized political state.
A person well versed in the affairs of a state used to be known as statist. The word statist is also found used by Shakespeare in his drama (Hamlet) in 1602 and Milton in (Paradise Regained). However in course of time the science of statistics marked important developments, especially during the late 19th and in the present century. The subject in these days is no longer restricted to the study of human population or to the problems relating to the administration of state. It had developed into scientific methods of analysis widely applied in Business, Economics and al the social and Natural sciences along with information technology revolution.
When Statistics used in plural sense means numerical figures which are collected in any field by using a statistical method. In other words it is described as numerical observations collected for specific purpose in systematic manner. When it is used in singular sense it means the science which deals with the technique to obtain, present, and analyze numerical data which is known as statistical method. Statistical methods categorizes into two major areas called descriptive statistics and inferential statistics.
