Earth and facts
The diameter of the earth in round figures is 8,000 miles. The circumference is 25,000 miles. Its surface area is 197,000,000 square miles. The imaginary line around which earth rotates is called axis. The northern end of the axis is called North Pole and the south end is called the South Pole. The equator is line drawn round the globe mid way between the poles. In addition to daily rotation, the earth revolves around the sun and completes the revolution in 365, 1/4 days. The annual movement of earth is called revolution. The path the earth follows around the sun is called the earth's orbit. The axis of earth is inclined 66, 1/2 degree to the plane of its orbit. The South pole is 26, 1/2 degree from the Antartic circle. The region between the tropic of Cancer and tropic of capricorn is called the torrid zone. The area between the tropic of cancer and the antarctic circle is called the north temperate zone. The area between the tropic of capricorn and the antarctic circle is called the south temperate zone.
